BBS to collect and store demographic, biometric data of all citizens

Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) in the very first instance, plans to gather biometric and demographic data for all citizens of Bangladesh.

Today's National Population Register (NPR) workshop the new initiative was extensively discussed.

NPR will forever store all of its data and issue every resident an identification number of 16 digits, in accordance with the BBS.

The Minister of Planning MA Mannan, at the panel discussion, said that privacy should be treated with care.

Shamsul Alam Minister of state for planning, stated that a particular timeframe should be set and followed to finish the project.
